I Dropped My Crown

I walked into the gym feeling defeated. I put in months of work to not place nationally.

I found myself disappointed, newly unmotivated and and upset (to say the least).

I shoved my gym bag into the locker, sighed and heard a whiny but strong voice echo though the locker room.

“I dropped my crown,”

said the little girl, who couldn’t have been more than 5 years old. “Me too, girl, me too,” I thought.

I chuckled.

It was just that. I dropped my crown. If only for a moment.

This 5-year-old girl was placed into my life to cross paths at the exact instant that I needed to hear that.

Why is it that we seek validation from eternal factors? Be it through friends, coaches, significant others, family members, social media, in corporate settings, through competition.

The moment to do this, you give away your joy.

My advice to you? Your crown is going to fall. Let it. Not even 100 bobby pins can keep it in place in a hurricane. Whine if you have to, but only for a minute. Pick it right back up, dust it off and get on your way. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff when there are larger issues that need your attention.
